Frequently Asked Questions
What is an elective prenatal Ultrasound?
Realistic surface images are performed solely for entertainment purposes to provide a special connection between the parents and baby and can be beneficial for the whole family. Elective prenatal ultrasounds will only be performed after a routine diagnostic
ultrasound examination ordered by your health care provider has been performed to assess gestational age and basic fetal anatomy as well as any fetal anomalies. Any woman seeking an elective ultrasound must be receiving treatment with a health care provider for prenatal care and have already undergone a medical examination to confirm her due date and look for any other pregnancy related issues. Baby Bump Imaging makes no claims that 3D or 4D images performed in this examination are used to better assess
the baby for abnormalities. At NO time is this exam to be used in placed of a complete diagnostic ultrasound.
Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?
Yes, in most cases we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby after the 16th week of pregnancy. We can't however guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as body tissue content, developmental stage, and
fetal position all affect the ability to determine the sex. If you are over 16 weeks and the gender can't be determined, we will invite you back for a return visit during the week and we will rescan you at no additional charge.
Do you accept insurance?
NO, insurance does not cover the costs of "elective" ultrasounds. You will need to pay the cost of this ultrasound as an out of pocket expense.
What form of payment to you accept?
We accept Cash, Credit Card, Debit Card, or Money order. NO CHECKS.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments are necessary for all services.
Are family and friends welcome to join?
This is a very special time for you and your family. We ask that you only bring 3-5 family members, or friends, with you to your appointment, as room is limited. However, a DVD of your scan will be available for purchase (or as part of your package) to share
this special moment with your extended family and friends at home.
When is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound?
That depends on what you are looking to see. Many mothers like coming in twice, early on, around 16-26 weeks, when they can see the baby as a wholes (cute tiny parts in 2D), and then again around 25-36 weeks to see more detailed imaging (full faced body, chubby hands/feet, and better facial features in 3D/4D). Between 28 and 32 weeks, your baby develops more fat and becomes more defined. After 36 weeks, it becomes more difficult to obtain good pictures since the baby is running out of room and has decreased amniotic fluid surrounding it. However, all babies are different and can still be successfully imaged all the way up to 39 weeks.
What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?
Drink plenty of water, starting several days before the appointment to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear. About one half hour before your scan, try to drink a fruit juice so that your baby will be awake during your session (unless you are told not to by your physician.)
